The master's degree program in Economics, Public Policy and Sustainability (EPPS) aims to train experts to design, implement, monitor and evaluate public policies and define business management mstrategies with regard to their effectiveness and efficiency in compliance with the objectives of economic, social and environmental sustainability. The course responds to the need to formulate
programs to support the economic development of businesses and territories with the aim of improving
the future of the next generation.
The educational offerings of the Master's program in EPPS are multidisciplinary and include teachings from the areas of economics, business, law, and data analysis. By virtue of this perspective, students can acquire skills that allow them the widest range of choices with a view to entering the labor market.
The course of study focuses on the analysis of public policies and economic-quantitative techniques for evaluating their effects, while also considering their implementation from the legal-administrative, management and human resources organization perspectives.
The skills that are developed relate to the design and analysis of public policies at regional, national and supranational levels; monitoring and evaluation of business and public administration investments; data analysis for the study of economic and business scenarios; public accounting; business management strategies and business-land relations; administrative law; the human resource
management.
A distinguishing feature of the Master's degree program in EPPS is the possibility of internships with research organizations, institutions, local governments, businesses and third sector organizations.The internship can become an integral part of the thesis project, constituting its context for critical investigation in the theoretical, empirical and interpretive fields.
Students will benefit from the interaction with the activities carried out in the Marco Biagi Department of Economics' internal research centers dedicated to economic analysis and public policy evaluation, such as the Center for Public Policy Analysis (CAPP) and the Center for Economic Research (RECent); from the collaboration between the Department and the Marco Biagi Foundation, which enjoys an extensive network of national and international relations with research institutes and businesses; and from the collaboration between the Department and the Municipality of Modena, with which the Department has recently launched the Permanent Observatory of Public Policies.
Another characterizing element of the training course consists of the possibility of carrying out activities dedicated to the development of transversal competencies (soft skills) through the attendance of some teachings that make use of innovative teaching methodologies. The course is aimed at those interested in managerial or executive roles in the public, private or third sector and those interested in working in the field of consulting aimed at public companies and businesses.
The relevant professional roles are applied economist, management specialist and control expert in public administration, goods and services acquisition specialist, economic systems specialist, business economics specialist, market analyst.
These professionals will be able to find employment in: European and national institutions; companies and public agencies; trade unions; business associations; nonprofit organizations; cooperatives; chambers of commerce; companies and financial institutions that have relations with the public administration; public and private research centers; think tanks; evaluation agencies; national and
international organizations; statistical and research offices; and consulting firms.
